Assigning Resources

Resource assignment is a way to specify the material used in an experiment, and provide the linkages across run steps for an experiment so that Riffyn can join data together. When assigning resources it is important to note that assignment of resources across steps will only occur when matching resource types exist across connected steps. Assigning a resource will cause Riffyn to automatically enter fixed properties associated with the resource - allowing for automated data movement.

Resources can be assigned to a run in two ways: clicking the grey area to the left of the resource cell (indicated by the 'dropper' icon), or by typing the name of the desired resource into resource cell:

Resource assignment by clicking the grey cell (with by the 'dropper' icon) will open the resource assignment panel at top. This panel displays a list of resources in the inventory that can be assigned to the selected resource type:

If the required resource does not exist, a new resource can be created. Additionally, the same resource can be assigned to all runs on a step by selecting the "assign all" option. The "remove" and "remove all" will unassign resources.

 

Resource assignment by typing a resource name will cause icon to the left of the resource cell to change:

  1. If a resource is found in the inventory it will be automatically assigned and a green checkmark will appear to the left of the resource name.
  2. If a typed resource is not found, a "?" will appear to the left of the resource name. Clicking the "?" icon will open the resource assignment panel with the typed resource name automatically filled into the search box.
  3. If a typed resource matches the name of multiple resources in the inventory a "R" will appear to the left of the resource name to indicate replicate resources of the type name are found in inventory. Clicking the "R" icon will open the resource assignment panel with the typed resource name automatically filled into the search box.

If a resource is not assigned, the top warning icon (next to the resource type name) can be right clicked to create and assign new resources. Alternatively, individual warning icons next to resource names can be clicked to individually create/assign those resources.

Note: Riffyn will apply the rules of sufficient uniqueness to determine if a resource can be assigned, cannot be found, or is a replicate.
