Intro to Material Flows, Procedural Tasks & Data Flows

Riffyn captures 3 distinct types of process flows; material flows, procedural tasks, and data flows.

  1. Material Flow:
    1. Specified by using Riffyn's Design Canvas in Design Mode.
    2. Material transformations are represented as steps, and materials flow between steps as inputs and outputs, represented by connections between steps.
  2. Procedural Tasks:
    1. Specified by using Riffyn's Design Canvas in Design Mode.
    2. Operations to be performed at a step are represented as tasks for that particular step.
  3. Data Flow:
    1. Specified by using Riffyn's Measure Mode.
    2. Data generated during an experiment is stored as property values of resources.

It is particularly noteworthy that in Riffyn the steps and connections of the Design Canvas correspond intrinsically to Material Flows. The interfaces for Procedural Tasks and Data Flows are coupled closely to the Design Canvas, yet they are also distinct from it.
